Type: Report Status: Filed
File created: 9/29/2014 In control: Borough Assembly
On agenda: 10/6/2014 Final action: 10/6/2014
Title: September 22, 2014 - City and Borough of Wrangell Letter The letter is to our Federal Delegation (Murkowski, Begich and Young) urging them, as members of the International Joint Commission, to explore a process that would trigger the Joint Commission's review and study of any mines proposed for development in British Columbia. Such a review process would give opportunity to ensure that Southeast Alaska communities' interests in protecting area salmon streams and rivers are considered for each mine development. The letter is similar to the concerns voiced in the Petersburg letter sent to the Canadian government and our Federal Delegation in June 2013 and our August 18, 2014 written comments to the Kerr-Sulphurets-Mitchell (KSM) mining project.
